Graeme Shinnie wants to return to Aberdeen next season and lead them back into Europe. The midfielder netted two goals in the 3-0 win over St Mirren that saw the Dons clinch third spot.

Shinnie is currently on-loan from crisis club Wigan Athletic and will hold talks over the last year of his contract but insisted he wants to be back at Pittodrie – if a deal can be struck.

Shinnie, when asked if he would like an Aberdeen return, admitted: “That is a bit obvious. “It’s one of those, let’s see what happens.

I can’t say anything here or there because it is still up in the air. We still have the season to finish and that is what I am focusing on and then we can sort it out and we will see what happens.” Wigan have just been relegated to England’s League One and look set to face a transfer embargo for the late payment of wages.
