Gartcairn go back on league summit by beating Shotts - that's our incentive, says boss
dailyrecord.co.ukGartcairn boss Mick Dunlop says going back on top of the West of Scotland First Division is all the incentive his side needs to beat Shotts tonight (Wednesday).The Airdrie side beat St Cadoc’s 2-1 on Saturday, leaving them three points behind leaders Benburb, with four games in hand.A win at MTC Park this evening will put them top on goal-difference, before hosting Bens on Saturday.Dunlop isn’t looking that far ahead, though, and said: “Shotts have had a good couple of results, so it will be tough.“There isn’t an easy game in this league, there really isn’t, and we’ll need to be right at it.“But the incentive is there for us, that if we’re able to win we go top of the league.“At this stage of the season that’s a great incentive.”Gartcairn have enjoyed several good results recently, and follow up Saturday’s visit by Benburb with a South Challenge Cup semi-final against Drumchapel United on Wednesday of next week.Dunlop said: “It has been a big week for us, starting a week past on Friday when we went to Drumchapel [3-0 win].“It was three away games – Drumchapel, Rossvale [4-1 win] and St Cadoc’s – and we know how difficult they are, so to get nine points was excellent.“Because of the cup games I think we had only played one league match in five weeks, or something.“We were getting to the point that other teams we were competing against had been playing games, and it was a wee bit of catch-up for us.“It was really important that, once we got back to league business, we managed to get points on the board as early as possible.“It has put us in a good position.
We’ve still got 10 games left and an awful long way to go, but it has put is in a far stronger position than we were before those three games.”It’s going to be a hectic
