Former Green MSP who quit party over trans row mocked for saying he's looking for work

A former Scottish Green MSP has been mocked on social media after he posted an appeal to find more work.Andy Wightman, who served as an MSP for Lothian until 2021, took to Twitter to reveal that he had only worked four paid days since May last year.

The post was met by many praising Wightman for his time as a member of the Scottish Parliament - but several members of the Scottish Young Greens, an independent youth wing of the party, ridiculed the statement.The mockery prompted several politicians from other parties to hit back by insisting he was a "huge loss" to Scottish politics.Wightman quit the Greens in December 2020 after claiming the party, led by Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater, had become "very censorious" on issues relating to trans rights.

In his resignation letter in 2020 he said: "Some of the language, approaches and postures of the party and its spokespeople have been provocative, alienating and confrontational for many women and men.""It has become evident to me that the sort of open-minded public engagement I would like to see take place on this topic is incompatible with a party that has become very censorious of any deviation from an agreed line."He tweeted last night: "New Year challenge - to find more paid work.
