The director behind Britney Spears‘ I Am Britney Jean is speaking out about his experience with the Princess of Pop. Fenton Bailey worked with the 41-year-old “Toxic” siren on the 2013 documentary, which was filmed in the midst of her conservatorship.

In a new interview, he debunked a common theory about her life and spoke to what he witnessed going on between the star, her father and team. However, it’s not her reality elsewhere. “In real life, she’s shy, very introverted. And as she has kept on saying, ‘I’m just a normal, boring person,’” he explained.

For example, he recalled filming an album listening party for her new album Britney Jean and described it as a time when she was “dying with embarrassment” because she didn’t want to be the center of attention.
