Fernhill Soccer School coach Davy O’Neil has issued thanks to ‘unsung hero’ volunteers who helped out with a kids’ Christmas party earlier this month.Over 80 kids flocked to Fernhill Community Centre for the party, where they tucked into food, ice cream, sweets and juice. They had a great time, taking part in games, and the club gave out football kits and shinpads.Davy said: “We had the kids in for the party, and what a night!“It was great to see all the kids have such a good time, and it’s brilliant to see the look on their faces.“All of this is only possible because of our volunteers, who are absolutely fantastic and turn out every Sunday night.“The soccer school has about 70 kids at it on a regular basis, and I want to thank the volunteers who help us, because every Sunday I’ve got eight or nine guys and girls who turn up to give me a hand – and they don’t get the pat on the back that they deserve.“Our ladies, Margaret Cowie, Lynsey McMillan and Cheryl O’Neil do all the registration of kids and give out the food, juice and fruit, and do the toilet duties.“Outside, we have Billy Hepburn and Kevin Anderson who take the older kids on the park.“Inside, we have Stewart O’Neil, Steven Gibson, Johnny Mackay, Craig Ramsay and Jamie Mackay, who have our youngest kids split into three groups.“I cannot thank all these coaches and helpers enough.”Fernhill Soccer School is now off until Sunday, January 15, from 6pm until 7.30pm.However, they have a tour of Rangers FC’s Ibrox Stadium taking place on Tuesday, January 3, for some of the kids. All who are taking part have letters with details on them.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and
