When Olivia Bartlett fell from a bridge above a major Stockport road, it changed her life forever. The former hairdresser was just 19 when she tried to take her own life, miraculously surviving the fall back in March 2018.
Olivia, from Gorton, needed two surgeries for 15 broken bones. She spent two weeks bedbound. Her injuries meant she had to give up hairdressing – a profession she had only just started exploring.
But the incident impacted her life in other ways. Having struggled with her weight, Olivia had worked hard to reach a size she was finally happy with. "With being bedbound and struggling with poor mental health, I put all the weight back on and would spend so much money on takeaways," Olivia, now 25, told the Manchester Evening News. "I hated how much weight I had put on and was so unhappy within myself and how I looked.
I could never wear certain clothes as I didn’t feel comfortable and was scared of how fat I looked in them." At her heaviest, Olivia weighed 15st 10.5lb and wore a size dress sizes 18 to 20.
