Sketches by Leonardo da Vinci are set to take centre stage at a new exhibit for The National Museum of Scotland next summer.

Anatomy: A Matter of Death and Life will examines the history of anatomical study from the artistic explorations by da Vinci to the Burke and Hare murders.

Examining the social and medical history surrounding the practice of dissection of human bodies, it will explore Edinburgh's role as a key centre for science as well as the links with murder and body snatching in the early 19th century.Anatomy will open with early examples of anatomical art, including the famed Italian artist and inventor's sketches which were lent to the museum by Her Majesty The Queen from the Royal Collection.It will cover 500 years of medical
