Everton manager Sean Dyche has explained why the club blocked Manchester United from signing Jarrad Branthwaite last summer.

United were heavily linked with signing the Toffees centre-back during the summer transfer window. The Reds submitted two bids to sign Branthwaite, both of which were rejected, with the second believed to be worth £45million plus a further £5million in add-ons.

Instead of returning for a third bid to sign Branthwaite, United moved to bring Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt to Old Trafford to strengthen their defensive options.

Reports in recent weeks, though, have speculated that United may still have an interest in signing the centre-back either in January or next summer.
