Durie's Boxing Club coach pleased with fighters despite Dundee disappointment

Durie’s Amateur Boxing Club had two fighters in action in Dundee recently and head coach Archie Durie was pleased with the performances of both.Club members Abe Renton and Nathan Rodden travelled to the City of Discovery to take part in the Skyaxe BC show on April 9Abe, who hails from East Kilbride, was top of the bill against Scottish novice Development 63-65kg champion, Keiran Flynn from the hosts club and, unfortunately came out on the losing side in a very close bout.This was Abe’s first attempt at boxing the 3x3s duration, which he handled very well.

The home boxer continually came hard at the Durie’s boxer, with Abe using fast feet and hand speed to get his opponent with lead right hooks and back hand lefts regularly.It was a close bout, but it came back at the end as an unanimous decision against Abe, with his camp feeling he was hard done by.Earlier in the afternoon, 25-year-old Nathan, wearing the Durie’s club colours for the first time since joining from Dennistoun BC last month, went in for a no-scoring exhibition bout, as he hadn’t trained or boxed in almost five years.Head coach Archie Durie said: “It was a good afternoon through in Dundee, even though we didn’t get the result for Abe Renton.“I think most people who watched the bout would agree that Abe was landing the cleaner shots, though it was a good close bout.“Abe controlled the distance and I thought he deserved his hand to be raised there, but it was a cracker of a bout which the crowd loved.“It was great to also get my new lad out.

Nathan jumped at the offer to box.“He has only been training with us for a few weeks, so I was really pleased at the way he performed and we were impressed with his fitness.“I had insisted we made it a non scoring
