A special quilt featuring designs made by school kids has been presented to the Lord Lieutenant of Dumfries. Pupils at New Abbey, Kirkbean and Colvend Primaries drew pictures of what they thought about the coronation of King Charles III, as did young participants at Cloverglen Service for Young Adults at Shambellie House.

Shambellie’s vice chairwoman and quilter in residence Ann Hill BEM, who was lucky enough to attend the coronation, used the designs for the quilt, which has now been presented to Lord Lieutenant Fiona Armstrong.

Ann, who lives in Mouswald, said: “Some of them drew Prince William, there were lots of crowns and Union flags, which is what the coronation was all about. “We talked about the king, did he ever come to Scotland, and I said we had someone here who represented the king. “One wee boy very quickly said she’s called the Lord Lieutenant. “So it was a good opportunity for Fiona to come along to Kirkbean to be presented with the quilt. “They were particularly interested in whether I had seen the king, and I said yes I saw the king and the queen! “They enjoyed hearing the stories, I think they would have loved to have been there.
