Dumfries and Galloway's only gliding club launches fundraising appeal after Storm Arwen destroys shed

The region’s only gliding club has been left counting the cost of Storm Arwen. Dumfries and District Gliding Club, which is based at Falgunzeon near Dalbeattie, lost a shed in the high winds at the end of November.

And while their winch and tow car survived, a generator was crushed when the shed blew down. They have now launched a fundraising appeal to find £12,000 to go towards a new structure and generator.

Treasurer David Neilson said: “We have had a bit of a disaster and the shed has blown over. “We built it ourselves about five years ago as we needed somewhere taller to put our winch. “Our members haven’t been idle, they have cleared the pad. “The generator has been damaged but one of our members has kindly bought a new
