Aron Lynas ended a four year goal drought with a stunning strike against Elgin City - and says he now hopes to find the net more often. The defender has been an ever-present for Stevie Farrell’s side this season, with his tough tackling already making him a firm favourite with the Sons’ support. But the former Albion Rovers skipper showed the other side to his game with a blistering strike in Saturday’s 4-0 victory in Moray - his first since netting his only other senior goal in 225 career games for Brechin City against Forfar Athletic in 2018.He joked: “Going by my record I’m probably done for the next four years!“I know I needed to add goals to my game though, so hopefully Saturday was the first of many.“To be honest I couldn’t quite believe it myself.

I just thought if I got my head over the ball and struck it cleanly then it might have a chance, I was absolutely delighted to see it go in and get my first goal for the club.“We knew that Elgin wasn’t an easy place to come, and to take as many goals as we did off them was special.

It was something we could give back to the fans for following us everywhere.“Money is tight and times are tough at the moment, so to repay them with a result like that is great.”Lynas is part of a Dumbarton defence that has kept eight clean sheets in 14 games, but with the Sons sitting five points clear at the top of League Two, he insists nobody is getting carried away.Aron explained: “It’s absolutely amazing that we’ve kept another clean sheet.

Our form has been very, very good recently.“I’ve loved every minute since coming, the boys have been so welcoming to me and the gaffer and assistant have been great too.
