A collapsed sewer discovered on one of Salford's busiest roads could lead to seven weeks of delays, council bosses have warned.

Workmen from Electricity North West found the 8m deep hole while laying cable at the junction of Green Lane and the A57 Liverpool Road in Eccles.

It's been caused by the collapse of an old 750mm wide sewer - and it's so severe 'the road itself' could collapse if it's not filled in.

It means roadworks in the area will now be extended while repairs are made. Three-way temporary traffic lights have been put in place at the junction.
