Dozens of people search Dumfries for missing dog which had got on a bus

Dozens of people joined a search for a missing black Labrador that did a disappearing act on Sunday.While they walked, drove and cycled round the town in a bid to help find Harvey, the six-year-old was on a bus to Beattock after being picked up by a group of girls at the Whitesands in the town.Owners Simon Smail and Susan Burnie had spent hours scouring the area looking for their beloved pet.But they were stunned after receiving a call from Beattock caravan park worker Owen Nelson saying the dog had been dumped on him 20 miles away.Their relieved daughter Mhairi told the Standard: “Dad’s the manager at the Venue and Harvey goes to work with him.“A band was in setting up and left the door open.

Harvey made a run for it and Dad phoned me later to say he was missing.“A post went up on Lost Dogs Dumfries and Galloway Facebook page and we were overwhelmed by the number of people offering to help look for him and who went out searching.“He was spotted at Paddy Power and Farmfoods, but was eventually picked up by some girls from Beattock at the Whitesands who decided to take him home with them.“When I heard he was on the X74, I thought he was being kidnapped.“Luckily, Owen had seen the Facebook post and contacted Dad to say he had Harvey.“They’d been driving all over the place for hours looking for him and had no petrol.

The car was running on nothing but they made it to Beattock and Harvey is now home.“The girls said they took him back to Beattock with them because they wanted to make sure he was safe.“When they got there, they went to a caravan park because they didn’t know what to do.
