Doctor Who announces huge return for 60th anniversary after Jodie Whittaker quits

THE BBC has announced former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies will return to helm the sci-fi drama. Award-winning writer Davies brought the show back in 2005 before quitting in 2009 - and now he will return to take over from departing boss Chris Chibnall.

Current Doctor Jodie Whittaker will bow out in a trio of special episodes next year. Russell will then helm the show through its 60th anniversary in 2023 and the series beyond.

His tenure on the show oversaw a surge in popularity enjoying huge acclaim and success. The Doctor won the nation’s hearts through his masterful relaunch, which led him to create two spin off series, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures during that time.
