Rapper DMX has died at the age of 50, his family have announced. Rapper DMX – real name Earl Simmons – has died after a heart attack, reportedly after suffering a drug overdose and being admitted to hospital.

He was placed on life support in the days before he passed away. The star, born Earl Simmons, died at White Plains Hospital in New York on Friday, 9 April.

A statement from his heartbroken family announced his death as they said: “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. "Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end.
