Djimon Hounsou opened up about his experience in Hollywood. The 60-year-old two-time Oscar nominated actor has been working in Hollywood since the ’90s.
However, in a new interview he said that he is “still struggling to make a living.” He reflected on what it’s been like and being overlooked at awards ceremonies in a recent interview. Keep reading to find out more… “I’m still struggling to make a living,” he said during an interview with CNN, via Complex. “I’ve been in the filmmaking business for over two decades with two Oscar nominations and many blockbuster films, and yet, I’m still struggling financially.
I’m definitely underpaid.” He continued, saying, “I was nominated for the Golden Globe, but they ignored me for the Oscars because they thought that I had just come off the boat and the streets.
Even though I successfully did that, they just didn’t feel like I was an actor to whom they should pay any respect.” “So, this conceptual idea of diversity still has a long way to go,” he said. “Systemic racism won’t change like that anytime soon.” Djimon previously said that he feels “seriously cheated” by his experience in the industry.
