Dalbeattie's landfill site under investigation after foul smell hits the town

A noxious smell wafting over parts of Dalbeattie is under investigation by Scotland’s environment watchdog.The mysterious stink resembles rotten eggs and appears to be at its worst in windless conditions.Local councillor Ian Blake reported the foul odour after receiving complaints from residents in Barhill Road.The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is examining the nearby landfill site at Auchenlosh as one possible source.SEPA instructed site operator Armstrong Waste Management to carry out checks for any “fugitive emissions”.A damaged section of gas pipework was found to be releasing landfill gas and replaced.However, Councillor Blake is still fielding grumbles from residents – and wants the problem sorted out.He said: “SEPA
