Taylor Swift

Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer-songwriter. She is known for narrative songs about her personal life, which have received widespread media coverage. At age 14, Swift became the youngest artist signed by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house and, at 15, she signed her first record deal.

Her 2006 eponymous debut album was the longest-charting album of the 2000s in the US. Its third single, "Our Song", made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number-one song on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008.

Buoyed by the pop crossover success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", it became the US' best-selling album of 2009 and was certified diamond in the US. The album won four Grammy Awards, and Swift became the youngest Album of the Year winner.

A cyclathon challenge is being held to raise funds for Prostate Buddies Dumfries and Galloway. Organised by Dumfries Devorgilla Rotary Club, with support from the Tesco Extra supermarket at Cuckoo Bridge, the ride will involve a static bike in store.

A group of cyclists from both the Devorgilla and Dumfries Rotary Clubs and 710 Cycling Club will take turns to try and pedal the equivalent 137 miles distance from Tesco Dumfries to the store’s Stranraer branch and back.

They hope to achieve this over 12 hours, starting at 7am on Saturday, April 1. Dumfries Devorgilla president, Peter Atkinson, said: “We are very pleased to be teaming up with Prostate BuddiesD&G to assist in their valuable work of support and guidance. “We very much hope the people of Dumfries will donate generously to our event.” Donations can be made to the cyclathon on the day at Tesco and the cyclists are urging the public to go and support them and make a donation to the worthwhile cause.

Their 12-hour progress will be able to be followed on Facebook at www.facebook.com/DumfriesDevorgilla. All the money raised will be donated to Prostate Buddies D&G and Prostate Scotland.
