Johnny Giles has criticised Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo for 'not doing enough to help' the young players. The 36-year-old revealed recently that he has been trying to share some of his experience with the rising prospects but they do not respond positively to constructive criticism.

He spoke out in a bid to see an upturn in the Reds' fortune after a disappointing season that sees them threatened with no Champions League football if a run of results isn't put together.

The former Leeds midfielder believes the five-time Ballon d'Or winner does the opposite to helping the younger players in the ranks. "If your players are doing what he is saying he's doing to help the young players, that's on the pitch you have to help them and off the pitch," he told Off The Ball. "You go back to the first time he was at Manchester United, he was one of the young fellas playing in a really, really good team. "This isn't a really good team, this is where all the young players get as much help as they possibly can get and I never see Ronaldo on the pitch helping any of those players. "I don't see that [the young players don't want help], I see that as 'I am doing it, they're not doing it'.

Looking at the match now, I don't see Ronaldo as doing that and I don't think he's the type of individual who does that. "Ronaldo's always looked after himself and it's one of the reasons that made him a goalscoring individual on the pitch, but I never saw him as a helper of other players on the pitch, young or old."
