Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Covid update from Public Health Scotland as 8,495 new cases reported

A further 8,495 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Scotland with the disease claiming another 29 lives. Data published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland show there are currently 1,571 patients with Covid in Scottish hospitals, which is up 25 from yesterday.There are currently 44 people being treated with the disease in ICUs.The new fatalities recorded within the last 24 hours bring the nation's death toll to 10,122.

However, 12,675 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, January 16 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

Meanwhile, there are 129 patients with Covid in Ayrshire hospitals – down eight from yesterday – while fewer than five people are being treated with the illness in the region's intensive care units.
