An infectious disease professor has named two Covid symptoms that are telltale signs of the virus as UK cases remain high amid a wave of BA.5 infections.People should "assume it's Covid" if they're suffering from fatigue and a sore throat," says Professor Tim Spector of King's College London and founder of the ZOE Covid app.Prof Spector tweeted: "There are twice as many Covid cases as common colds currently.

Symptoms much the same except generally more fatigue and sore throat – so best to assume it's Covid.""Try to get tested if you can.

If you can't get tested, assume you've got a cold and stay away from other people until you feel better," he added. Like Prof Spector, the NHS warns of the similarity between these symptoms and the common cold.

This is something which will become problematic during the colder months, the Express reports. New data suggests the UK is continuing to move past the peak of the current wave of Covid, with hospitalisations falling.
