Coronation Street has sparked 72 Ofcom complaints in the wake of Monday night's (27 March) episode, which saw the ITV soap air harrowing scenes depicting an acid attack.
The instalment saw Justin Rutherford (played by Andrew Still) launch sulphuric acid at Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) in a horrifying attack.The storyline began with Justin determined to make Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) his victim.The villainous character has been stalking her for months and made the twisted decision that if he couldn't have her, nobody else should.
As viewers watched in horror, Justin cornered Daisy on the morning of her wedding at the Rovers Return pub. He warned the bride that "no one" would want her after what he was about to do, but in heroic scenes, Ryan jumped in front of Daisy to protect her from the onslaught.
As Justin threw the acid in Daisy's direction, Ryan caught the burning fluid instead. As the fan-favourite cried out in pain as his skin began to burn, TV-watchers shared their views on Twitter.
