Concerts and large indoor events in Scotland will be back on in time for Burns Night as Nicola Sturgeon said restrictions on large indoor events would be lifted on Monday 24th January. In her covid update to Holyrood the First Minister said that in light of the improving situation with Omicron most of the restrictions imposed at the turn of the year would be lifted.Sturgeon said the limits on on attendance at indoor public events would be lifted in addition to ending the requirement for 1 metre physical distancing between different groups in indoor public places. The need for table service in hospitality premises serving alcohol is also being lift as is the ban on nightclubs opening. As is usual the First Minister entered a note of caution with the announcement even though she said Scotland had “turned a corner” on the Omicron wave. She said: “It is important to stress this point: notwithstanding the improving situation, the level of Covid infection circulating in the community is still high."So to minimise the risk of us getting the virus it would be sensible for all of us to remain cautious in our social interactions at this stage."Sturgeon added: “Even though from Monday we will no longer recommend a fixed upper limit on numbers of households, if we all continue to keep gatherings as small as our circumstances allow for now - until the end of this month - we will reduce our risks of infection.”“And, of course, we should continue to take lateral flow tests before meeting up with people from other households.” To sign up to the Daily Record Politics newsletter, click here.
