Holiday season is around the corner and while many people are excited for a jaunt abroad, others are left worrying about how to ensure the plants they’ve carefully cared for will fare with no one to water them.
One TikTok user shared a clever hack using household items that keeps plants watered without someone needing to check up on them.TikTok user Justine Shannon – who aptly has a page called @selfcareplants – shared her hack that she nicknamed “the wick method”.
Justine’s way of keeping plants watered uses a wick, or string, and a large saucepan of water. She put thick pieces of string in a large pan of water and then attached each string to a plant’s soil.
Justine noted that to make sure the method works, the saucepan needs to be kept at a higher level than the plant itself. The method can be used on more than one plant, users just need to add extra string to the water. The string acts similarly to a straw with the water being sucked up straight into the plant’s soil.
