Christopher Walken on losing ‘Star Wars’ role to Harrison Ford: ‘I’d have been awful’

It’s been reported over the years that Walken was George Lucas’ second choice to play protagonist Han Solo — a role which eventually went to Harrison Ford. “I did audition [for ‘Star Wars’] but I don’t think I came remotely close to getting the job,” Walken told the Financial Times on Thursday. “About 500 other actors auditioned, so it wasn’t as if it was down to me and somebody else.”Walken also revealed he auditioned for Ryan O’Neal’s part in the classic 1970 tearjerker “Love Story.” At the time, he was a relatively unknown stage actor and similarly lost out on that role. “I was lucky [to have been rejected from both films] because I’d have been awful in them,” Walken candidly claimed.
