A chef smashed up an iconic city centre landmark and caused about £20,000 worth of damage during a bizarre attack. Ryan Parsons, 27, was caught in the act as he attacked the pagoda within Manchester's Chinatown.
Pictures from the scene showed the damaged pagoda, with its red wooden gates left broken. Parsons, a qualified chef, caused an estimated £20,000 worth of damage during the incident in the early hours of June 21.
Parsons, from Bangor, Wales, had come to the city looking for work, Manchester Crown Court heard. He was observed 'attacking' the landmark, hitting the fencing around it and the pagoda itself, prosecutor Bob Elias said. He then saw Parsons 'hanging around' with some of the missing ornaments. The worker challenged Parsons, who was described as being 'hostile', and retrieved the ornaments.
