The temperature is starting to drop and daylight hours are already getting shorter as Scotland bids a reluctant farewell to summer and braces for the brisk chill of autumn.

The colder months are set to push millions of household budgets to the brink this winter due to the ongoing energy crisis, high inflation and a general increase in daily living costs.

Prime Minister Liz Truss recently announced that the typical UK household, on the standard tariff, will pay no more than £2,500 a year for energy for the next two years from October.
