The broadcaster said it had "a duty to offer an alternative to others" after the likes of ITV and BBC aired back-to-back coverage of tributes to Prince Philip.

The Duke of Edinburgh passed away on Friday morning (April 9), Buckingham Palace announced on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.

The duke, 99, had recently spent time in hospital where he underwent treatment for a pre-existing heart condition and an infection.
