Cast announced for new Netflix film based on Prince Andrew's Newsnight interview

Big acting names such as Gillian Anderson, Keeley Hawes, Billie Piper and Rufus Sewell have been announced as the cast of the Netflix drama based on Prince Andrew's disastrous Newsnight interview, it has been reported.The film called Scoop, is set to showcase the "inside track" on how Andrew came to do the interview.

Back in November 2019, Prince Andrew, 62, was grilled by presenter Emily Maitlis over his relationship with late billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, writes The Mirror.Following the backlash from the interview and his friendship with Epstein, the duke stepped down from his life in the public eye.The Crown star Gillian Anderson, 54, will portray journalist Emily whilst Rufus Sewell, 55, who recently starred in The Man In The High Castle and The Pale Horse, will play Prince Andrew.It's A Sin star Keeley Hawes will play the Duke's former private secretary, Amanda Thirsk.Doctor Who actress Billy Piper will play former Newsnight producer Sam McAlister, who's memoir Scoops: The BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews From Prince Andrew To Steven Seagal was used as a base for the movie.It took Sam a year to secure the sit-down on-camera meeting with Andrew.Netflix said the film will look at “navigating Palace vetoes, to breaking through to Prince Andrew’s inner circle, the high-stakes negotiations and intensity of rehearsal – to the jaw-dropping interview itself”.It will also shine a light on “the journalists whose tenacity and guts broke through the highest of ceilings”.Netflix's Twitter page announced the cast line-up, fans reacted and were delighted in the line-up for the Scoop.Get the latest celebrity gossip and telly news sent straight to your inbox.
