Johnny Depp
John Christopher Depp II (born June 9, 1963) is an American actor, singer, producer, and musician. He has been nominated for ten Golden Globe Awards, winning one for Best Actor for his performance of the title role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2008), and has been nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Actor, among other accolades. He is regarded as one of the world's biggest film stars. Depp made his film debut in the 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street, before rising to prominence as a teen idol on the television series 21 Jump Street (1987–1990). He had a supporting role in Oliver Stone's 1986 war film Platoon and played the title character in the 1990 romantic fantasy Edward Scissorhands.

ordered to pay millions to ex-husband Johnny Depp in an ugly defamation lawsuit that was broadcast to the world and reignited national discussion around sexism and sexual abuse.

The original message had been made in the context of other tweets about the Depp/Heard case. Felicia Sonmez, a colleague of Mr Weigel’s on the politics desk, took exception to the tweet, sarcastically writing last Friday that it was “fantastic to work at a news outlet where retweets like this are allowed”.

Mr Weigel quickly apologised and took down the offending post. On Monday, the paper issued a company-wide statement announcing Mr Weigel, 40, would be suspended without pay for a month.

On Thursday, Ms Sonmez was fired. There is a common understanding of collegiality in the media, often expressed in the US as “no shooting inside the tent”.
