Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.
Yesterday saw King Charles III and the Queen Consort leave London to return to their respective homes following days of public events paying tribute to The Queen - with Charles having been granted 24 hours to rest ahead of his mother's funeral on Monday.
Reflecting on the tough week the pair have endured, former BBC Royal Correspondent Jennie Bond believes that the new King will depend greatly on his "companion, friend and lover" Camilla in the turbulent months to come. "It makes me think of Edward the eighth and how he said he could not be the King he would wish to be without the woman he loved by his side," she exclusively told OK!
this week. "Charles always includes Camilla in his speeches when he can. "She’s a couple years older, she's getting older, and I think this must be very physically taxing for her.
But I think he depends on her absolutely for support. "There are few people in King Charles's position. So few people, that he can share his innermost thoughts with." The couple landed at Camilla's home Ray Mill House before Charles made the 30 minute drive to his private residence in Highgrove. This marks first time they have separated since travelling to Aberdeenshire's Balmoral Castle to see the Queen last Thursday before she passed away.
