Andy Burnham says he doesn't believe his planned network of new hire bikes will fail as the ill-fated 'Mobike' scheme did across Greater Manchester.
Around 1,500 docked bikes, and 300 e-bikes, will become available in the first phase of the scheme in Manchester, Salford and Trafford by mid-2022.
The 'Bee Bikes' project - designed to encourage Mancunians to leave their cars at home - comes under plans unveiled by Greater Manchester's mayor to make the city region's transport network net zero carbon by 2030.
Chinese firm Mobike pulled out of the city in 2018, citing unsustainable levels of theft and vandalism. Bikes were stolen, stripped and even hurled into canals.
