My beloved grandad Adam used to tell me every time we were out on the golf course “it’s better to be lucky than good”.That was generally either after I’d bounced a wayward shot off a rock on to the green or he’d pitched in to the hole from 30 yards out.In reality there was nothing lucky about the level of his golf game or the cabinet full of trophies in his Edinburgh flat.It was countless hours of practice and years of experience that meant his short game was miles better than most and his relentlessly accurate drives earned him the nickname RDM - right down the middle.Watching him manoeuvre his way around a golf course was a thing of beauty.In fact it’s always a joy to watch any sportsman or woman in total control of their craft, with the Commonwealth Games providing plenty of old and new Scottish stars in Birmingham.Unfortunately for St Mirren fans their side have yet to hit their stride just yet this season.If anything, they’ve been going from bunker to bunker when they’ve been trying to safely navigate their way onto the green.In the aftermath of last Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Pittodrie, Ryan Flynn said he was keen to not keep focusing on the club’s disastrous Premier Sports Cup campaign.Losses to Championship side Arbroath and League One side Airdrie, without notching a single goal, were warning signs for many Saints fans.Flynn was adamant it’s too early in the season to panic, and while I totally agree with that sentiment, I also agree with Stephen Robinson when he admitted St Mirren desperately need a result against Ross County tomorrow afternoon.There have of course been mitigating factors in both of the losses to Motherwell and Aberdeen.To lose the opening goals in both matches to penalties resulting from
