The horror blaze broke out at a 19-storey apartment building in the Bronx on Sunday morning. The initial alarm was raised at around 11am local time with around 200 firefighters called to the scene, according to the New York Fire Department (FDNY).
It's believed more than 60 residents have also been injured as a result of the "unprecedented" fire, reports the Mirror. Reports have confirmed that among the dead are nine children, including a four-year-old.The cause of the fire has not yet been established.Harrowing photos show a firefighter cradling a rescued baby, victims on stretchers, and a woman covered in soot being treated by paramedics while sitting on the ground.Crews have also been pictured bravely scaling ladders as flames bellow out above them at the 120-unit building near Tiebout Avenue in the Tremont area.Families are alleged to have been jumping from the windows to escape the blaze, according to witnesses.This has not been confirmed by FDNY.
