Brendan Fraser came out on top to take home the highest acting honor at the 2023 Oscars! The 54-year-old star won Best Actor, his first ever Oscar, for his work in The Whale.
In doing so, he beat out the likes of Austin Butler and Colin Farrell. Upon taking the stage to claim his award, Brendan delivered an emotional acceptance speech. And I’m grateful to [director] Darren Aronofsky for throwing me a creative lifeline and hauling me about the good ship The Whale.” He continued, paying tribute to his fellow nominees: “Gentleman, you laid your whale-sized hearts bare so that we could see into your souls like no one else could do.
And it is my honor to be named alongside you in this category.” The actor also shouted out his Best Supporting Actress-nominated co-star Hong Chau. “I wanted to tell you that only whales can swim at the depth of the talent of Hong Chau,” he said. “I started in this business 30 years ago and things… they didn’t go easy for me.
