Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Boris Johnson preparing to rip up Brexit deal on Northern Ireland trade

Boris Johnson is preparing to trample over the Brexit deal for Northern Ireland and risk sparking a major trade war with the European Union.Foreign secretary Liz Truss is due to tell MPs on Tuesday the UK Government will frame a new law to override the protocol regulating trade between the UK mainland and Northern Ireland which remains in the EU customs union.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman confirmed that Truss will set out the Government’s reasons for using domestic legislation to make major changes to the exit deal signed up to by Boris Johnson.But she will not publish draft legislation in a game of brinkmanship with the EU over post-Brexit trading arrangements.The brinkmanship with the EU came after Johnson had a difficult round of talks with party leaders in Northern Ireland.After talks with five parties in Belfast on Tuesday the Prime Minister said the protocol needed to be changed.He said: "We would love this to be done in a consensual way with our friends and partners..But to get that done, to have the insurance we need, we need to proceed with a legislative solution."The Assembly election on 5 May cemented a majority for those who accept the trading protocol, including the new largest party, Sinn Féin.

But it has been opposed by unionist politicians who have refused to take their seats in the power-sharing assembly until their demand to abolish the protocol has been met.The Prime Minister was booed and jeered by around 200 people, some holding banners reading “Back off Boris.
