nme.comBilly Joel has teased a previously unheard song named ‘Every Time’ on John Mayer’s new radio show – listen below.The ‘Piano Man’ singer appeared on the pilot episode of Mayer’s new SiriusXM show How’s Life on Thursday (November 28), when the host asked him if he had any parts of an unfinished song he would be comfortable sharing with listeners.Describing it as a “spare part”, Joel revealed that there was indeed an idea he had been toying with for “years and years and years and years”.
He said he “had always told myself I was going to do something with this, something’s going to happen with this. It’s a really nice piece of music.”Confirming that he did not think anyone had ever heard it, he began to play a dramatic, moody solo piano break named ‘Every Time’.
He quipped, “The thought behind that was, ‘I’ll screw it up every time’.”Listen to the moment in the show below:Joel and Mayer appeared on stage together last month in Los Angeles for a rendition of ‘This Is The Time’ for only the second time in public.In July, the pianist played his historic 150th – and last – show as part of his Madison Square Garden residency, bringing out Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose to perform a number of songs.
He had been playing one show at the iconic venue every month since January 2014.Late last month, Billy Joel announced two new UK live shows – marking his only European tour dates for 2025.
