Benedict Cumberbatch is looking back at his career. In a new interview, the 48-year-old Oscar-nominated actor reflected on a past controversial movie role that he admits he regrets and says he “wouldn’t do” now. As soon as the trailer for the movie was first released, Benedict faced a lot of backlash from LGBTQ+ activists, who spoke out against the movie’s apparent jokes surrounding the character’s gender. “I’ve had to apologize for that quite a lot,” Benedict added.
While talking about his co-stars Ben, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell, Benedict said, “I love that group of people and it was the chance to sort of be part of something that the first time around was iconic and I was a huge fan of.” “But it got complicated and it got misunderstood and I upset people,” he continued. “I respect that, so I probably wouldn’t do that again now.” In another recent interview, Benedict looked back at his near-death experience after being “abducted” in South Africa.
