Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has confirmed the Conservatives ' snap plan to abolish the BBC licence fee, in what was branded as a "pathetic" attack on journalism.
Fury has been rising after the minister revealed controversial news that the fee would be frozen at £159 until April 2024 and abolished altogether in 2027 in a tweet on January 16.
Now, the minister has revealed the true terms cut to the payment and has said that the licence fee model will now be reviewed, as reported by The Mirror.
Ms Dorries also faced a barrage of complaints that the announcement was only rushed out to "pick fights" with a "great British institution" to distract from the row that is being dubbed 'partygate', which is surrounding Boris Johnson.
