Author's spy thriller comes to life in new film with scenes filmed inside Ayrshire hotel

An Ayr author has told of the surreal moment that characters from her books came to life on the big screen. Erin Swann’s Slate Retribution was transformed into Slate Abomination – a dramatic prequel to her first book.We previously told how Erin had set her sights on turning the Slate series into a TV drama, comparing the intense spy thriller to Killing Eve and Line of Duty.The short film premiered last month and has already been a hit amongst online film festivals, scooping Best Action/ Adventure Short at Riservati Pictures Film Festival.And Erin also known as Emery Hale (her author name) has told of the pinch herself moment seeing her ideas become reality.Erin told Ayrshire Live: “It was amazing watching characters that I wrote in Slate Retribution and Slate Damnation come to life.“Seeing actors portray characters I'd written scenes with mere days before filming, was such a surreal experience.“Being an author has been brilliant and bringing it to life through film, was something that I've always wanted."Slate Abomination is set 14 years before Slate Retribution, and sees an emergency cabinet meeting hijacked by a known terrorist organisation.Helping bring the Slate universe to life was Tarbolton director Kris Scott who co-directed and along with Ayr director Rory Meechan.Intense scenes were filmed in the town’s Mercure Hotel which was used as the backdrop as the drama unfolded.

Wellington Square also features.Erin added: “Shooting this in Ayr, as well as the Mecure hotel was brilliant, everyone was so supportive in allowing us to make this happen.”The premiere was held in at the UWS campus, where students and movie goers were able to pour over the short and learn more about the production/ filmmaking process.Viewer
