When Derek McInnes needs a big performance from Ash Taylor in a do-or-die game – he usually gets it.In Wednesday night’s relegation dog-fight with Dundee United at Tannadice, the Kilmarnock manager dropped club captain Alan Power to the bench.
McInnes handed the armband to Taylor and the big centre-back led them to a stunning 3-0 win. The Scouser was outstanding in defence for Killie who all but sent United through the Premiership trap door.Taylor arrived at Ruby Park last year to hook up with the manager for a third time after two separate spells under him at Aberdeen.
McInnes trusts Taylor. At 32, he might have his limitations. But when it comes down to a fight where you have to defend for your lives, Taylor usually delivers for his gaffer.
And he’s determined to do it again this afternoon against Ross County to ensure Killie’s survival in the top flight. He says he had no hesitation in joining McInnes in Ayrshire when he left Walsall.
