Arthur's Seat on fire as crews rush to put out massive hillside blaze

Fire crews have worked through the night to battle a blaze at Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh.Emergency services were called to the hill in Holyrood Park around 10.30pm on Sunday evening and fire fighters remain in attendance.The fire affected approximately 50 square metres of of gorse at St Margaret's Loch, Arthur's Seat.

Images taken on Sunday show the raging fire as orange flames can be seen from the Southside and Newington areas as dark smoke billows into the air.Two appliances were sent to the scene around 10.30pm and crews remained at the scene overnight, with one appliance remaining in attendance on Monday as firefighters work to make the area safe.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 10.30pm on Sunday, 12 February to reports of a fire affecting an area of gorse at St Margaret's Loch, Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh."Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where crews kept a watching brief during the night.
