Ardeer Thistle boss Sean Kenney admits he hasn’t given up on a dream ‘double’ promotion. The Stevenston outfit resume their Conference B campaign away to Thorniewood tomorrow knowing a win could take them to the brink of the top four. That’s the threshold for promotion to what will effectively be the second tier of the WoSFL next season when the three conferences are broken down into linear leagues.Should Kenney’s side achieve the feat it will mark a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for a side who were the worst ranked team in the region when he took over in the summer. They are already in a strong position to secure a top nine finish which would clinch a place in next season’s third tier.Kenney is keeping his feet well and truly on the ground for now but is also keen to have no regrets come the end of the campaign. He said: “We’re pushing on and we have to be relatively happy with how things have gone so far but one of the big things I wanted to change at the club when I came in was the mentality.“I don’t want us to look back at the end of the season and use the excuse, ‘aye, but look where we’ve come from.’”“It’s nice at first when people point that out but we have to look forward.“At the moment we still have a lot of work to do.

We don’t have any superstars, just a group of boys with a great team spirit who work hard for each other.“Thorniewood is a tough start to the year for us.

They’re a good team and in my opinion one of the favourites to go up.“We will need to be at our best, as we have had to be in most games this season, if we want to take the points.”Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines –sign up to our free daily newsletter here

Darts icon Michael van Gerwen looks unrecognisable with hair at the 2008 world champs
darts legend Michael van Gerwen without his trademark chrome-dome.The Dutchman, who has had the sport by the scruff of the neck for the majority of the last decade, burst onto the scene in 2007 after throwing an incredible nine-dart finish against compatriot Raymond van Barneveld.Van Gerwen was just 17 years old at the time and still holds the record for the youngest player in history to throw a televised nine-darter.While he struggled for consistency over the next few years, van Gerwen's early career was explosively captivating. He was brash, he was frighteningly talented, and as strange as it looks, he had a head full of hair … well, sort of.Images of Mighty Mike during the 2008 World Championships have emerged and while we're all aware that, logically, he had to have had hair at some point, it still doesn't look or feel right. His thinning, auburn locks - as well as his trim figure - make him look like a completely different person altogether.By the time he won his first PDC major in 2012, van Gerwen had been sporting a shaved head for a few years and had embraced the bald look with style and grace. Two years later at the age of just 24, he won the World Darts Championship for the first time, becoming the youngest man in history to do so - a record he still holds today. What looks weirder - Michael van Gerwen with hair, or Phil Taylor with a moustache? Let us know in the comments section below...He was ranked World No 1 for the next eight years and is currently the second most successful player in PDC history, behind Phil Taylor. The Dutchman was forced to withdraw from the 2022 World Darts Championship after testing positive for Covid-19 ahead of his third-round match against Chris Dobey.
