Ardeer Thistle boss Sean Kenney admits he hasn’t given up on a dream ‘double’ promotion. The Stevenston outfit resume their Conference B campaign away to Thorniewood tomorrow knowing a win could take them to the brink of the top four. That’s the threshold for promotion to what will effectively be the second tier of the WoSFL next season when the three conferences are broken down into linear leagues.Should Kenney’s side achieve the feat it will mark a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for a side who were the worst ranked team in the region when he took over in the summer. They are already in a strong position to secure a top nine finish which would clinch a place in next season’s third tier.Kenney is keeping his feet well and truly on the ground for now but is also keen to have no regrets come the end of the campaign. He said: “We’re pushing on and we have to be relatively happy with how things have gone so far but one of the big things I wanted to change at the club when I came in was the mentality.“I don’t want us to look back at the end of the season and use the excuse, ‘aye, but look where we’ve come from.’”“It’s nice at first when people point that out but we have to look forward.“At the moment we still have a lot of work to do.

We don’t have any superstars, just a group of boys with a great team spirit who work hard for each other.“Thorniewood is a tough start to the year for us.

They’re a good team and in my opinion one of the favourites to go up.“We will need to be at our best, as we have had to be in most games this season, if we want to take the points.”Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines –sign up to our free daily newsletter here
