Andy Halliday rejects Hearts hard luck story as physio room one liner underlines injury woe

Hearts can look back on 2022 with plenty to be pleased about – but Andy Halliday insists it’s not time to dish out pats on the back.Robbie Neilson’s men finished as best-of-the-rest in the league last season, reached the Scottish Cup Final and sealed group stage European football for the first time in 18 years.

Wednesday night’s win over St Johnstone saw them move into third place again this term and they will be favourites to stay there.

All this despite having more walking wounded on the books than an episode of Casualty. But veteran midfielder Halliday reckons results and performances over the past 12 months could – and should – have been a lot better.

And he doesn’t think the demands of eight European ties can be used as an excuse. Halliday believes the team have conceded too many goals this season and been too slack in some of their displays.It was something the squad discussed at length during the World Cup break and vowed to put right when the competitive action got back underway.
