Alvin Ing was an actor known for his performance on Broadway as Wang Ta in “Flower Drum Song.”Ing was best known for his work on Broadway, including “Pacific Overtures” as well as “Flower Drum Song.” The “Pacific Overtures” song “Chrysanthemum Tea” was written expressly for Ing. He also appeared widely in movies and on television.

Actor and singer Alvin Ing, known for roles on Broadway and on tour in "Pacific Overtures" and "Flower Drum Song" as well as in films such as "The Gambler," has died. He was 89.

Ethan Shanfeld Alvin Ing, a pioneering Asian American Broadway actor who appeared in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Flower Drum Song” and Stephen Sondheim’s “Pacific Overtures,” died at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif. on July 31.

confirm.Ing’s manager, Anthony Leones, did not immediately answer TheWrap’s request for comment.Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1932, Ing pursued performing arts by studying music education at the University of Hawaii and eventually moved to New York at age 25.
