Alan Burrows revealed he snubbed approaches from several clubs – but jumped at the change to take charge at Aberdeen. The former Motherwell chief executive will take up the role at Pittodrie at the end of February, less than a month after announcing his departure from Fir Park after 15 years with the Steelmen.

The 43-year-old admitted he’d knocked back offers from several sides but couldn’t resist the opportunity to play a leading role in the Aberdeen rebuild.

One of Burrows’ first tasks will be to lead the search for a new manager after Jim Goodwin ’s departure and he said: “It’s a real privilege to be asked to take up the position of chief executive at AFC. “I’ve built up a good working relationship with the chairman over the years and was very pleased when he got in touch.

Aberdeen’s an excellent football club with a rich and decorated history and ambitious plans for a successful future. “When I decided to step down from my role at Motherwell, I was fortunate enough to have a number of clubs make contact with me.
