Callum Fordyce hopes Airdrie can replicate Saturday’s showing against Alloa to sink Clyde this weekend – and seal the perfect start to a massive month that could prove pivotal for their promotion hopes. The Diamonds produced one of their best displays of the campaign so far to swat the Wasps aside in a 4-0 victory, and February now brings a key run of fixtures in Airdrie’s push to reach the Championship. On Saturday Fordyce’s old club Clyde come calling before a double-header with league leaders Dunfermline and then the visit of second-place Falkirk to see out the month.

And with Airdrie now in the play-off spots in fourth place, a string of results could catapult them right up the standings.No.2 Fordyce said: “With the way the fixtures are coming, Clyde, the double-header with Dunfermline and then Falkirk, it’s huge games and ones you want to be involved in.“Saturday was a massive step forward going into the play-off spots but it is such a tight league that anything can happen because anybody can beat anybody.“It is an exciting league and I think it is going to go right down to the wire in every position.“It is just about getting that consistency and momentum to keep us pushing forward.“We are full of confidence right now and some of the stuff we played on Saturday was excellent.“But we can’t look too far ahead.

We’ve got to focus on Clyde first and go from there. If we can get three points there we can start thinking about the other games.

We will do our homework on them but we’ll be focused on ourselves. If we can get a repeat of Saturday’s performance that would be perfect.”Fordyce is familiar with what Clyde will pose this weekend, having worked under Jim Duffy during his first spell with the Bully Wee.
