Netflix film under her belt, 88 million loyal TikTok followers (and counting), a successful make-up line and countless high-profile fashion campaigns – most recently, as the face of Pandora’s playful new ME collection.
But despite the internet being the vehicle which propelled her to super-stardom, Rae admits that her early experiences with social media proved a rocky start. ‘I got Instagram when I was about 11, and I had no idea what I was doing.
I was posting the most random stuff,’ she laughs. ‘I used to have Tumblr too, and I think a lot of my inspiration comes from that era of the internet, when it was more like a mood board.
Even now, I think social media is something that no one really knows exactly how to work. It’s just something you learn as you do it – and the most important thing is that you have fun. ’Rae’s fun-loving, down-to-earth lip-sync and dancing videos are exactly what have made her one of the most recognisable and influential stars of her generation – and her advice to those looking to follow in her footsteps is simple: ‘The most important thing is to find what makes you feel most like you on social media, and letting that project your creativity through your platform,’ she says.
