Academic warns lifting restrictions could put region 'back to square one' despite virus cases dropping

Perthshire respiratory expert has said lifting COVID restrictions too early risks taking the country “back to square one”. Professor James Chalmers made the comments after speaking on today’s (January 22) BBC’s Good Morning Scotland programme.While pleased case numbers were beginning to fall, he said the number of younger patients in hospital recently showed “anybody is at risk of getting severe COVID”.The British Lung Foundation chair of respiratory research said: “We started to see the number of people testing positive coming down from the height of 2500 cases just after Christmas to now - still very high but lower than it was - around 1600.“We are by no means out of the woods yet but this is really encouraging news that the restrictions.
